Our Kaupapa

Afters is a music-centric venue, and a core part of our ethos is ensuring that we create a safe, inclusive and friendly environment for every in attendance.

We exist to champion electronic music and the communities that grow around it. Our kaupapa is to provide a space where people can connect through sound, expression, and shared experience. The music is the heartbeat, but the people are the soul.

Our People

Everyone who walks through our doors is welcomed as they are. We celebrate diversity in all its forms - identity, culture, gender, sexuality, ability, background, and style.

This venue is built for those who love electronic music and value the freedom it creates. No one should ever feel judged, excluded, or unsafe here.

Our Space

We commit to maintaining a safe, respectful, and harm‑aware environment.

  • Consent is non‑negotiable.

  • Harassment, discrimination, or aggressive behaviour has no place here.

  • Our staff are trained to support anyone who feels uncomfortable, unsafe, or needs help.

  • We encourage people to look after themselves and each other.

Our Culture

We honour the values of Pōneke’s underground electronic scene: openness, creativity, community, and care.

We uplift local artists, promoters, and dancers who contribute to the culture. We protect the vibe by ensuring the space stays inclusive, welcoming, and musically authentic.

Our Responsibility

Everyone in the venue shares responsibility for keeping the kaupapa alive.

  • Respect the space.

  • Respect the people in it.

  • Respect the music and the artists who create it. When we all uphold these values, the dancefloor becomes a place where people can fully express themselves without fear.

Our Promise

We promise to continually evolve, listen, and improve. We will always prioritise safety, inclusion, and the wellbeing of our community.

This venue is not just a place to party — it’s a home for electronic music lovers, built on trust, care, and collective joy.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of behaviour which undermines these principles, as everyone who comes into the venue deserves to know that these will be upheld.

Some Additional House Rules:

Photography: keep your phone in your pocket, it’s not going to look as good as you think it does in the morning.

Unless prior arranged with us, we do not permit photography in the venue. Everyone in attendance needs to be able to enjoy the music without worrying about being snapped in action.

AI: Please don’t use AI event posters.

If your event isn’t worth getting a poster made for, it’s probably not a good sign for people looking at buying tickets. Also supporting local artists yay.

Caring for our people and yourselves: keep an eye on yourself, on your friends, and on those around you.

Make sure you’re here in a happy place, and if you see anyone who may not be let us know.

If you see anything which undermines these values, please let our bar staff know, or alternatively send us an email at info@afters.events
